    Shravasti District is one of the districts of the Uttar Pradesh state of India and Bhinga town is district headquarter. Shravasti district is a part of Devipatan Division. Shravasti shares its border with district Balrampur, Gonda and Bahraich. Bhinga, the District Headquarter of Shravasti, is approximately 175 kilometres away from approximately the state capital, Lucknow. Shravasti,the northeastern district of Uttar Pradesh, is located near River Rapti. It is closely associated with the life of Lord Buddha. It is one of the main site for Buddhist pilgrimage as well and Jain Pilgrimage. It is being said that the mythological king Sravast founded this town. Shravasti was the capital of Kosala Kingdom during 6th century BC to 6th century AD.

    Shravasti Judgeship came into existence on 19-03-1998. Prior to its creation, Tehsil Bhinga and Tehsil Ikauna of Shravasti District were parts of Bahraich Judgeship. In the earlier time of its creation, one Tehsil Payagpur was established and Officers and officials were posted in Tehsil. Later on, Tehsil Payagpur was demolished and absorbed in district Bahraich. There is no outlying court in Shravasti Sessions Division.

    Sri Muneendra Kumar Mittal was posted and appointed as Officer-on-Special Duty/District Judge on 22.02.1998. Later on, after creation of Sessions Division Shravasti, Sri Muneendra Kumar Mittal had officiating as District & Sessions Judge, Shravasti.

    Initially The State Government sanctioned five courts namely District & Sessions Judge, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Civil Judge Senior Division, Civil Judge Junior Division and Judicial Magistrate, Shravasti. Later on on Court of Additional Sessions Judge, Fast Track Court was shifted and transferred from Azamgarh Judgeship.

    In Shravasti Judgeship there are only 03 tehsils namely Head quarter Tehsil Bhinga, Tehsil Ikauna and Tehsil Jamunaha and cases relating these tehsils are heard and disposed by the Judicial Officers of this Judgeship. There are 11 police stations namely Kotwali Bhinga, Sonwa, Sirsia, Malhipur, Gilaula, Navin Modern Thana, Mahila Thana, Hardatt Nagar Girant, Anti Power Theft thana, Anti Human Trafficking Unit and Ikauna.
